Le Cose Che Ti Dico

One of the songs I wrote for my final project for an Italian class.  The title translates to “The Things I Tell You” – the chorus (in English) goes “The things I tell you / are the true / when I look inside / I see opportunity / if you come with me / you will see the quality of life / it’s very beautiful”.

Ti Prego

This is one of three songs I wrote for my final project of an intensive Italian course.  Lots of fun writing in a language that wasn’t English.  The title translates to “Please” or “I ask of you” – and the chorus (in English) goes “Please look at me without judgement / Please help me without motive / I don’t know if I can survive / because without you I have nothing”.

Lady

This is the first song I wrote when I purchased my first Macbook in the fall of 2009.  The night I brought home the computer, I was blown away by working with Garageband, and I put together this song to “test drive” the mechanics.  I love going out dancing, and that’s what the song ended up being about.

“too good for you”

i don’t want to feel “too good for you”
despite the things you’ve done.
i’ve never fancied love a sport,
scores tallied, lost or won.

i don’t want to feel “too good for you”
despite what i’ve been told.
for no one else could understand
our context as a whole.

i don’t want to feel “too good for you”
though sometimes, i admit
i try because it helps to make
you easier to quit.

i wish i felt “just right for you”
because i feel its true, that
we’re made less of the things we’ve done,
and more of the things we’ll do.

Continue Loving Me

I often enjoy putting others’ lyrics or poetry to music.  In the case of this song, one of my close friends from Ohio had written and sent me these lyrics years prior, and I had come across them and remembered the desire to write a tune for them.  The whole song, while very simple, came together more quickly than I was expecting, and I kind of like how it turned out.

More than Words

This song was in the works for over two years – each verse and the chorus were all written at different times and in different contexts.  Separately, they didn’t make sense or even say anything I wanted to say.  Then one day I was messing around on my guitar and I discovered the riff that carries through most of the tune.  As I played it, I was reminded of each of the pieces I had written before, and they all kind of strung together naturally..  I felt like it painted a truer picture of things I had always wanted to say.

the telephone line

the final time we spoke
it was the telephone line,
which kept us together
long after our farewells had been uttered.

we lingered in silence
for we each feared severing that
last connection –
all that remained between us.

i waited for you to end our call.
you did the same.

empty seconds turned into minutes.
that damned telephone line
carrying nothing, yet everything.

shallow breaths, punctuated by heavy sighs…
will i ever know a more meaningful silence?
